When you connect with the dirt, the water, the rocks, and the air in such a visceral way, like I did, you realize that there is a force out there in the wilderness that is essential to our existence as human animals, which is easy to forget in the manufactured world where everything is at our disposal. We must venerate these areas, not just protect them, because without them we lose a part of who we are – the wildness within us.
My Story:

I am currently living in Vermont, a place very close to my heart, and the place I consider home.  I am Peruvian by birth and spirit, but grew up in the United States most of my life, so you can say that my heart & soul are Peruvian and my mind is American.  My travels and studies have brought me to Europe, spending nearly a year in Italy, learning about good food and the good life.  For the past few years I have worked in the environmental field for a global conservation non-profit, and on various sustainability initiatives.

The Wild Gift trek served as the launching point for my business in sustainable food.  I am just at the starting point of my good, slow food business, but I can truly say that Wild Gift gave me the freedom and the stage to let my ideas & dreams germinate.  I hope to have more updates later this year, such as a website/twitter/facebook info.  In the meantime, I have been keeping in contact with my class and we've been collaborating, seeing each other and sharing information on our projects.
