Without the discussion sessions that occurred in the Wild Gift classroom, I might have missed a number of important components of literature and scholarship that help to provide a foundation for my research and consulting.
Impacts of My Work:
Created the framework for several educational components of an afterschool/summer camp for urban low-income students. Though the original organization has handed the program off to another NGO, elements of the original afterschool program continue.
Services provided to 50-75 K-5 students in very low income neighborhood summer program.
Services provided were nested in on-going neighborhood based after school & summer camp program (though format is quite different).
Very likely statistically significant improvement in cohort standardized testing scores for students who received full suite of neighborhood services including WG portion (no formal assessment to prove but all anecdotal evidence indicates improvement).
My Story:

I am currently a doctoral student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where I work at the Center for Housing Research.

I am part of two research teams at the Virginia Center for Housing Research (VCHR).  Principally, I serve on a team awarded one of six grants by HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research to explore the leading edge of sustainability in housing.  The team’s project is entitled The Impact of Market Behavior on the Adoption and Diffusion of Innovative Green Building Technologies.  The research effort addresses how to promote sustainable and affordable housing through adoption and diffusion of green building.   The research utilizes multiple databases that support empirical analysis of the adoption and diffusion of green-building products, product clusters and certifications of builders and buildings.  I also serve on a team helping to analyze the findings from a recent symposium designed to assist HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research in defining new areas of their research agenda.

I received a Masters of Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia in 2010 and served as an intern for an Urban Land Institute Advisory Services Panel in Galveston, Texas.  In addition, I am a member of Evergreen Advisors, LLC, a real estate development consulting firm.
