2013 Pasture To Plate Calendar and Mushroom Foraging
With your help Pasture To Plate will create a certified mobile kitchen by June, 2013. In the first year Pasture to Plate will focus on offering events at host farms that connect eaters to their local, ecologically sustainable farms. Each event will be held on a different host farm in southern New England and will feature an on farm meal with the option to attend a pre-dinner food preparation workshop as well as purchase food directly from the host farm to take home at the end of the evening. Pasture To Plate will provide small farmers an organizational model and mobile certified space to add value to their diverse raw products, knowledge, services, and farm spaces, boost profits, and grow a stronger community.
In an effort to raise funds to purchase the mobile certified kitchen and get the word out about Pasture To Plate, we have created a 2013 Pasture To Plate Calendar (see sample photos below). The beautiful 2013 Pasture To Plate calendar was shot by Colin Peacock, a friend and very talented photographer. Each month features a tastefully elegant photograph of seasonal farm produce on Rosasharn Farm CSA (the farm I have developed and managed over the past four years). The produce is highlighted by the modest (but nude!) bodies of the talented woman who have been involved with this 100% woman-operated farm. Each month’s photo has an accompanying seasonal Pasture To Plate original recipe created by myself based on my experiences cooking on the farm, at Chez Panisse restaurant, and at our pilot series of Pasture To Plate farm dinners.
The photo for the month of October features wild Maitake mushrooms foraged from the woods of southern New England. These mushrooms are very prized for their excellent flavor and used in many fine restaurants when seasonally available. I have made a short video about foraging for Maitake, also known as hen-of-the-woods. In the future Pasture To Plate will be able to offer workshops, such as wild mushroom foraging and cooking. Pre-order the 2013 Pasture To Plate calendar today! They make fantastic holiday gifts, are beautifully elegant, have wonderful recipes, and you are supporting a better world project.
